The Sudburys team swapped spreadsheets for spanners to host a Build-A-Bike event in April 2025
In late 2024, as part of being an official Dream Partner of I Have A Dream, we began conversations with them about their goal to launch a bike programme for local youth. They had a vision and thanks to a generous donation, they already had a bike trailer. The only thing missing: the bikes themselves.
After sourcing high quality mountain bikes through a generous deal with Sheppard Cycles, we set about approaching our clients to jump on board with covering the cost of each bike and helmet through sponsorship. The goal was simple: fill the bike trailer!
Thanks to the generous support of our amazing clients, and with tools in hand, we teamed up to build 12 top-quality mountain bikes — each one ready to empower local rangatahi (youth) with access to physical activity, outdoor adventure, and hands-on learning.
But this programme is about more than bikes.
It’s about connection, confidence, and opportunity. These bikes will serve as vehicles for mentoring, community engagement, and skill-building. Through the programme, young people will also learn the mechanics and maintenance of the bikes — gaining practical knowledge, a sense of ownership, and the confidence that comes with fixing something with your own hands.
The event was part of our Sudburys team day, and a true team effort. Working in groups alongside our clients, we transformed boxes of parts into fully built, rugged rides — with plenty of laughter, collaboration, a bit of friendly competition, and yes, the occasional trial and error.
“Wow, all I can say is thank you so much for such a wonderful event this afternoon…we cannot express how appreciative we are of all the time and effort you put into putting this event together. Seeing what seemed just like a pipe dream at the end of last year come to fruition has been so exciting—especially because it’s shown how the support of various local organisations can make aspirational new programmes happen. Jodie Hannam, I Have A Dream
